On May 2 and 3, 2009, Christ Church Cathedral invites you to celebrate and enjoy the 117th annual Flower Festival!
The Cathedral will be filled with flowers and plants—many from Missouri Botanical Garden—in a weekend that features special services, a Saturday afternoon street fair and two concerts. Christ Church Cathedral and Flower Festival are located at 1210 Locust St., St. Louis, MO 63103. Here’s the line-up of events:
SATURDAY, MAY 2
11 a.m.The Rt. Rev. Greg Rickel, Eighth Bishop of Olympia—as well as environmental advocate and presenter for The Climate Project—will preach at the Flower Festival Eucharist. Bishop Rickel will challenge us to consider our role in the current economic and environmental climate by “Asking the Right Questions: An Economic Catastrophe Is a Terrible Thing to Waste.”
12:30–4 p.m.There’s fun for everyone at the Street Festival, an array of games, food, music, arts and crafts booths, local vendors. You can even take a tour of the Cathedral and the Bell Tower!
7:30 p.m. The Flower Festival Concert features Collegium Vocale, under the direction of Dr. Bruce Carvell.
SUNDAY, MAY 3
8, 9, 9:15 and 11:15 a.m. Our Festival Eucharist services follow our regular Sunday schedule—but if you missed Bishop Rickel’s sermon on Saturday, the 9 and 11:15 a.m. services provide two more opportunities to hear him.
5 p.m.The Flower Festival Evensong joins the voices of the choir of First Congregational Church–St. Louis (Ronald Hall, Organist and Director of Music) with the voices of the Cathedral Choir, William Partridge, Organist and Choirmaster.
